The Government of India, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), has announced upcoming Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for various aluminium and aluminium alloy products. These regulations will make BIS certification mandatory for multiple wrought aluminium products used in general engineering, electrical applications, and utensil manufacturing from 01 December 2026.
The notified products include aluminium bars, rods, plates, sheets, strips, tubes, wires, rivet stock, forgings, and extruded sections covered under Indian Standards such as IS 733:1983, IS 734:1975, IS 736:1986, IS 737:2008, IS 739:1992, IS 740:1977, IS 1285:2002, IS 2067:1975, IS 21:1992, and IS 5082:1998.
These QCOs aim to improve product quality, ensure safety and standardization, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and support the “Make in India” initiative. Manufacturers, importers, traders, and suppliers dealing in aluminium products must obtain BIS certification before the implementation date to avoid penalties and supply disruptions.
