The Government of India, through the Ministry of Textiles, has notified a new Quality Control Order (QCO) making BIS certification mandatory for Fibre Ropes — Polypropylene Split Film, Monofilament and Multifilament (PP2) and Polypropylene High-Tenacity Multifilament (PP3) — 3-, 4-, 8- and 12-Strand Ropes. This Quality Control Order will come into force on 05 June 2027, and the product must comply with IS 5175:2022.
The objective of this QCO is to improve the quality, safety, durability, and performance of polypropylene fibre ropes used in industrial, marine, agricultural, construction, logistics, and general-purpose applications. The regulation also aims to promote the use of high-quality products, protect consumers, and strengthen the "Make in India" initiative.
Manufacturers, importers, brand owners, and foreign manufacturers supplying polypropylene fibre ropes to the Indian market must obtain a valid BIS licence before the enforcement date. Products covered under this QCO cannot be manufactured, imported, sold, or distributed in India without complying with the applicable Indian Standard and BIS certification requirements.
